Diana Johnson’s radical abortion up-to-birth motion has narrowly passed, campaigners are relieved that very unlikely to become law.
We are a group of midwives who have come together to oppose the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) support for a campaign run by abortion provider BPAS calling for the legalisation of abortion up-to-birth for any reason.
Over 1000 midwives, maternity support workers and student midwives have now signed our open letter to the RCM calling for our Board to revoke the College’s support for this agenda, and begin to consult the membership as to the membership’s views on this controversial issue.
In February 2017, it has been announced that our names are being used to back a Bill from Diana Johnson MP that seeks to introduce abortion up-to-birth for any reason. We are opposing the use of our name and the Bill – and have added a section to our website where members of the public can email their MP to ask their MP to oppose this extreme Bill.
